The Calgary Round-Up Band is one of Canada's oldest and finest junior marching bands. Founded in 1956 by the Calgary Police Service, the Round-Up Band has provided Calgary-area youth with training in both music and dance accompanied by a strong sense of self-discipline for over fifty years.

The band travels nationally or internationally each summer to promote its program and the city of Calgary. Additionally, the group performs annually in numerous events such as the Calgary Stampede Parade, Banff Canada Day Parade and Music 'N Motion, a spring exhibition held annually in Calgary.

As a marching ensemble, Round-Up Band combines music with movement to produce an unforgettable experience for members and audiences alike. This program provides opportunities to develop musical skills in a unique, fun and exciting performance-based atmosphere.

The field show is the primary focus of rehearsals throughout the year. It is the telling of a story conveyed by instrumentalists and dancers through the use of drill formations, music and visual pageantry. Every year a new field show is performed, providing the students with an unforgettable experience that is uniquely personal.

Part Time Bookkeeper Help Wanted

The Calgary Stetson Show Band and the Calgary Round-Up Band require a part time Bookkeeper with the following responsibilities:

  • Prints and delivers required cheques for approved expenditures.
  • Prepares required gaming reports, federal and provincial government reports and grant application information as required and communicates with outside governing bodies as required.
  • Provides monthly financial reports as required.
  • Prepares all records for yearly audit.
  • Assists in other areas as requested.

 

In addition to basic bookkeeping skills, knowledge of Quick Books and/or Simply Accounting would be an asset. The workload varies from month to month with an average of 6 hours per week.

Jim Henson Legacy

Bonnie Erickson, Exceutive Director for the Jim Henson Legacy contacted CRUB about the CRUB Muppet Show. Ken Martinson, an associate of Ms.Erickson was in the audience during the MACBDA performances at McMahon Stadium and captured pictures of CRUB's Muppet Show Performance.


Dear Band Members,

Ken Martinson sent me photos of the Calgary Stampede Parade. It's really great that you chose The Muppets as your theme. On behalf of The Jim Henson Legacy I thank you all for honoring Jim Henson with your performance. It's particularly appropriate since this year on September 24th, Jim would have been 75 years old. I know he would have been delighted to have been your inspiration.

CRUB receives $25000 from The Keg - 'Thanks A Million' campaign

Members of the Calgary Roundup Band will be able to buy themselves some shiny new instruments heading into this year's Calgary Stampede.

The Keg's ‘Thanks a Million' campaign is behind the grant and, after hearing from groups all over North America, put it to the public to vote for which ones would receive the 40 grants.

The restaurant chain is celebrating 40 years in the business by giving away the cash.

The Roundup Band has been performing for over 50 years and is made up of local junior high and high school students.

Aaron Park, the band's director, says the group will benefit from new instruments. "We've got a ton of instruments that are so old. Just not functioning anymore and this will provide some new equipment for students."

The Band has always been a part of the Calgary Stampede and will be marching again this year.
